How a Sydney Stylist Makes This $25 Accessory Look Expensive

The first standout headpieces of the season have been spotted at the annual Spring Champion Stakes Day, which was held over the weekend at Randwick Racecourse. The items in question? Stark white ribbons that were worn by Jesinta Franklin and Carissa Walford, both styled by Sydney-stylist Jess Pecoraro. Long gone are the days of fascinators and over-the-top, complicated headwear, and what's very of the moment is the chic and simple Parisian silk tie ribbon. (All thanks to you, Byrdie Australia, and Lara Worthington.)

Pecoraro, an expert at spring races styling and dressing It girls on a regular occasion, knows a thing or two about accessorising for a day at the track, and she recommends getting creative with how you style the ribbons: "For Carissa, with the ribbon wrapped around her head, I suggested hair up and out of the face because of all the wind on the day," Pecoraro says. "And if you want to recreate Jesinta's look, purchase a thick, white silk tie ribbon to wrap around the base of the hat and you can get away with good-quality Hollywood tape to keep it in place, as glue tends to show through the ribbon if it's not thick enough," she suggests. Best thing about this accessory (besides the price)? It's not an attention-seeking way to have all eyes on you, but it's anything but basic.
