The Fashion Girl's Guide to Shopping in Perth

Perth is notorious for its beautiful beaches, delicious eateries and relaxed culture. However, it’s the all-embracing fashion landscape that caters for my every mood, budget and shopping occasion that continuously draws me back to my hometown for the holidays. While Perth’s shopping districts may appear slight in comparison to Melbourne or Sydney, there are plenty of hidden gems to be discovered. From high-end shopping on King Street where you can browse the likes of Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu, to rummaging through quirky vintage stores in Northbridge, Perth’s fashion scene is far from minimal.

A stroll down Perth’s luxurious King Street always has me swooning over the beautiful architecture, cobblestone roads and the finest international and Australian high-end designers. King Street’s exquisitely merchandised boutique windows evoke a European feel, reminiscent of Paris’s iconic Avenue Montaigne. Whether or not you’re intending to shop exclusively at Tiffany & Co., Prada or Bally, without a doubt if visiting Perth, King Street is a no-brainer.

A short stroll from the CBD, Northbridge is the go-to hub of street art, vibrant social culture and of course an eclectic mix of boutiques. Spice up your wardrobe by visiting Oh Henry Vintage, Fi & Co and of course Vinnies Retro on Williams street; perfect for finding one-of-a-kind vintage accessories and statement garments. I love Northbridge for the reason that I never know what I’ll pick up each time I visit!

Elle Boutique stocks an impressive portfolio of leading International and Australian designers. With brands such as Balmain, Valentino and Isabel Marant, searching for the latest Chloè handbag or Alexander Wang boots will be fuss-free. No need for that expensive overseas holiday, Elle Boutique is responsible for closely connecting us with the European fashion industry.

Peonies, lace and Parisian styling is what comes to mind when I think of Coco & Lola. The chic and over-the-top feminine boutique opened in 2010 and now has two locations in Perth, an online store and a massive social media following. It’s no wonder that Coco & Lola is a favourate among Perth women (and globally, too, with its international shipping!).

Sana Boutique is fittingly located in the stylish suburb of Claremont and carries some of Australia’s most notable contemporary labels. With designers ranging from Ginger & Smart, Kate Sylvester, Georgia Alice and By Johnny, Sana Boutique makes it easy to shop the latest trends.

Just as the name suggests, Perth Up-Markets aren’t your average weekend markets. In fact, the premier Perth markets are held quarterly at the University of Western Australia and showcase garments, giftware and accessories handcrafted from local designers. If it’s locally designed accessories or handmade one-offs that you’re after, Perth Up-Markets is a must for unique and individual finds.

If a trip to Perth isn’t in your horizon in the near future, you can still satisfy your FOMO by browsing these online stores from some of Perth’s local designers.

Poppy Lissiman is the founder of her self-titled, handmade accessories label Poppy Lissiman. If you’re familiar with Di$count Universe and are all for glitter, colour blocking, pop culture icons, quirky sunglasses and cosmic clutches, be sure to check out Poppy Lissiman. The best thing about Poppy Lissiman is that you can adopt these eclectic accessories as part of your uniform and feel good knowing that the brand is cruelty free and ethically produced.

My favourite Perth designer, Jaime Lee Major doesn’t shy off from sequins, lace, latex and Swarovski crystals. Major launched her label in 2010 and came to public attention in 2011 designing an array of demi-couture dresses for Australian singer Kimbra. It’s easy to see why her whimsical and ornate Swarovski encrusted dresses have been worn by the likes of Chanel Iman, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Rita Ora. Jaime Lee fortunately has a small selection of ready-to-wear dresses available online. #winning.
