3 Things to Do Today More Valuable Than Celebrating Valentine's Day
You may have heard: It's Valentine's Day. While there's nothing innately wrong with the annual celebration of all things warm and fuzzy, I'm of the slightly marginalized opinion that there are a ton of better uses of my time. (And no, I'm not a bitter single person—I'm in a loving, happy, and supportive relationship, and I still am anti V-Day.)
It's not that I'm anti-love. I just think there are so many more things we could and should be doing with our money and time than buying flowers and eating candy. Just hear me out, ok?!
Keep scrolling to see the three things I think are a better use of time than celebrating Valentine's Day today!
Instead of spending your hard-earned dollars on flowers, chocolates, and an overpriced gift, how about setting aside some cash to donate to a charity of your choice? Here are a few of my favourites.
This organisation provides help and resources to victims of domestic violence, something more than 38 million women have been impacted by in their lifetime.
Thousands of animals are rescued every year from unlivable and inhumane situations. Help these two organisations raise money to continue to save them.
This Gucci-backed organisation, co-founded by Beyoncé, Salma Hayek Pinault, and Frida Giannini, raises funds to make sure every young girl receives the education she deserves.
Instead of taking hours out of your day to go to a romantic dinner or some other date you can (and should) do any day of the year, consider donating something even more valuable than money—your time.
There are several national organisations that are currently looking for volunteers: Habitat for Humanity, Project Angel Food, and the United Nations are just a few. And Volunteer Match is a fantastic resource for finding organisations near you that need assistance.
If you're just super busy or not in the best place financially, there are still ways you can help. You probably have a number of items in your closet and drawers that you literally never wear (it can't just be me, right?)—and there are people who would really appreciate your unwanted things.
