The "F&F Rule" I Follow When Planning What to Wear to a Wedding

Sure wedding season is a thing, but I feel like I’ve been stuck in wedding season for the past two years now. I’m certainly not complaining, because I enjoy any excuse to travel and spend time with my friends celebrating the union of love. And during my marathon of weddings attendance over the past couple years, I’ve learned a couple tricks when it comes to searching for the right dress or jumpsuit to wear for the occasion. I like to call it the “F&F rule,” and it works like a charm. Read on if you trust me.

The Fit

For me, the perfect fit means it accentuates my frame without clinging too snugly to my body. I look for something that's fitted with just enough room to comfortably enjoy my day/evening. I also try and look for something with a drapey sleeve, but that’s just me because I like to hide my arms when I know I’m going to be photographed. Most importantly, you want to feel comfortable and confident because you’ll most likely be in the dress or jumpsuit for a decent amount of hours. For example, there are times when I really like a dress or jumpsuit that's on the trendier side, but ultimately knowing how I like a piece to fit, I keep my rule in mind and go for the item that will make me feel my best.

The Fabric

The number one thing I ask myself when I looking or reading about the fabric is “Will I pit out in this dress?” Typically heavy silks show sweat quickly, leaving sweat stains much more obviously than other fabrics like silk blends or chiffon. That said, silk dress options certainly aren’t out of the picture, you just have to keep the fit in mind and look for a style that’s on the looser side and breezy around the armpits, and you're good to go.

Hopefully this simple rule will help you the next time you're searching for the perfect wedding guest dress or jumpsuit. In the meantime, I'm sharing some of my favorite pieces that pass my "F&F rule" below.
