This Cult Brand Just Landed in L.A. for the First Time



Los Angeles folks, get excited—the shopping scene in your neck of the woods just got a whole lot better. Visvim, a Japanese streetwear label, which was founded by Hiroki Nakamura in 2000, officially opened its doors to its first-ever L.A. flagship retail shop last week, Visvim Exposition. This L.A. launch is the second store for the brand in the United States, the other having opened in Santa Fe, New Mexico last year.

The 3000-square-foot L.A. space, located in the historic Bradbury Building, will be home to the most "complete assortment of ready-to-wear and accessories from the S/S 18 and Pre Fall 18 (men's) and WMV (women's) collections." Sounds pretty cool, no? But wait—there's more. The retail location is about more than simply shopping—it's an entire experience.

As Nakamura explains, "I would like to think of this new location as an ever-changing installation of all my comprehensive work from past, present, and future. It will be a freethinking, gallery-like experience with a rotating exhibition of new developments both within the brand as well as the work and ideas of other people with a similar ideology and philosophy."

The press release states that the "opening design elements include a vintage 1950s Airstream trailer, a World War II–era military tent, as well as several antique furniture pieces made by George Nakashima."
