Where This Australian Actress Is Shopping for Old Celine

There's something so irresistible about a woman who can throw on a pair of jeans and a shirt, and make it look expensive. Australian actress Tessa James is that woman. We've long been fans of her elevated style—a wardrobe full of oversized suiting, cool accessories (peep this Prada bucket hat), and unexpected evening wear.

The actress has been living and working overseas in Los Angeles, so there aren't many opportunities for us to steal her time. We recently sat down with James to learn more about her personal style, where she loves to shop, and how she dresses since becoming a first-time mother late last year. Read on.

How would you describe your personal style?

I would say my style is very minimalistic. I am a uniform dresser and love layering (pending where I am in the world!). I don’t have a huge wardrobe, but really staple pieces that are transeasonal and can take me anywhere.

On James: Balenciaga Coat ($4015) from Harrolds and Levi's 501 Crop Jeans ($150).

How has your style evolved since becoming a mother?

It’s definitely become a little bit more uniform since having my son but remains classic and put together. I’ve noticed that I dress for ease, comfort, and efficiency now which is really important with a near toddler!

Where do you love to shop for unique finds that you won’t find anyone else wearing?

I keep my wardrobe fairly simple, but like to offset that with a great pair of shoes, earrings or a jacket. I love a good blazer. Yoox is great for some vintage Celine finds. Once in a while I’ll pop into a vintage store—there are some amazing ones in LA.

What trends are you excited to wear for summer?

Keeping it fresh in lots of white. I love shirts for summer and a great pair of sunglasses.

Do you have any secret style hacks you can share with us?

Tailoring. Your clothes always look better when they fit you properly. Also, number one tip—always carry a lint roller. I have one on me all the time just in case!

Never say never. Day to day I’m pretty simple and minimalistic but for events or a night out I love to experiment with fun and different looks.

Who are some stylish women that influence you? Why?

I’m lucky to have some very stylish girlfriends that inspire me, Marina Afonina (of Albus Lumen) and Filomena Natoli. I also think Gaia Repossi and Julia Pepias have great style. I am very much inspired by designers and travel.
