The Trends Worth Splurging on This Summer, According to Marina Afonina

We’re right in the middle of the best time of year—you’re wrapping up all the loose ends and starting to finally switch off. With that in mind, it leaves space for you to think about how you want to update your summer wardrobe and dress for the break. (And the work year ahead. Sorry, but it’s coming.)

To help you prepare, we sat down with Marina Afonina—the super-stylist and designer behind our favourite new label Albus Lumen, to bring to you a perfectly curated list of trends worth dropping your cash on. These aren’t the trends that are here today, gone tomorrow, but pieces you’ll love for years to come. They’re the ones you definitely won’t regret buying or think twice about reaching for again and again.

“I love white for summer, especially if it’s a head-to-toe outfit. I think it gives a fresh, clean and sophisticated look and the trend has longevity—you’ll still be wearing these pieces into autumn and then next summer.”

“It’s all about bold jewellery pieces this season and I’m reaching for earrings, first. Céline and Chloé have my favourites on offer—they’ll dress up any outfit to go from day to night. Think about splurging on designer brands—a statement piece will be a forever investment.”

“Little details like fringing add some fun to your outfit for summer. The Albus Lumen fringed scarves make a simple look stand out. If you don’t want to splurge (because you already bought the expensive earrings), go for little hints of fringed detail.”

“This is such a great trend for summer—I love the relaxed shapes, details and texture. Everything from an embroidered blouse, to lace-up tops, A-line suede skirts and long floral dresses should be on your shopping list. Embrace this trend while it’s here.”

“The best part about a block heel is its comfort. Especially for days that turn into nights. I’d head straight to Chloé or Gianvito Rossi and snap up some lace-up flats and heels before everyone else.”

“Every summer wardrobe should have a hat by Nerida Winter, a classic pair of sunglasses, a simple swimsuit, lace-up summer dress and a scent to take you back to those relaxing times for when you head back to work.”
