Zanita Whittington Reveals the Strategy Behind Street Style Photos
Her quirky mismatched vintage outfits, wild hair and tall silhouette can't be missed. Boasting over 350K followers on Instagram, Australian creative director, photographer, and certified 'worldwide boss lady', Zanita Whittington knows a trick or two about street style. For Whittington and other successful bloggers that take the street style business seriously, there's more than meets they eye when it comes to being photographed at fashion week.
In a recent interview with Connie Wang for Refinery 29 during New York Fashion Week, Zanita explained her strategy and the reason why she encourages her photo being taken at fashion week. "Street style is a huge part of my business" says Whittington, explaining that once images are circulated online, it helps boost her profile, and thus exposure to brands looking to partner with influencers.
Wang then spotted Zanita remove the denim jacket she was wearing (as pictured above) and tie it into a scarf, giving photographers another unique angle of her outfit. Zanita went on to explain, "the trick is to walk to the show… that way you get more shots in".
It may seem obvious, but Zanita says "the best street style photographers don’t like the idea of someone just turning up to use them". So basically, you have to give them a show, and being both a photographer and blogger herself, Whittington has the upper hand—knowing exactly how to play the game, and nail every single street style shot.
