Don't Make These Spring Racing Style Mistakes

Surprisingly, the racing calendar is one of the easiest times to make a 'fashion mistake'. There are so many rules, and dress codes, but aside from that, it's a long day out in your finest, and you need to be prepared. As in, prepared for everything from swollen feet, an uncomfortable outfit, to a dress code mishap.

We've all been there, and worn a pair of uncomfortable shoes, when really we should've worn them in first. But really, there's no excuse now. We've covered so many different ways to stop and prevent blisters (or cure them on the go), from slipping into your shoes with slightly moisturised feet, to the best way to wear them in, we've got you covered.

But what are the other style mistakes we see on race day? Keep scrolling, so you can find out, and not make them yourself...

DON'T WEAR DENIM

You can get away with wearing denim on basically any other day in your life, so why ruin an opportunity to dress up, by wearing the same pants or jacket you wear almost every day? Keep your denim jacket at home on Melbourne Cup day, and opt for a light blazer or collarless jacket instead.

DON'T WEAR ILL-FITTING SHOES

You really have no excuse for this one. Follow our advice, and wear a pair of heels you already know will keep you supported all day, or start wearing them in a few days before (even if it's just around the house over a chunky pair of socks).

DON'T WEAR A CROP TOP

Some race days and venues have banned crop tops from the green, so rather than run the risk of being turned away, save it for recovery drinks the next day. If you're unsure of the dress code, always be sure to double check (and remember, there's a stricter code if you're lucky enough to nab a spot in the Member's lounge).

DON'T FORGET YOUR HEADPIECE

You'll just be embarrassed when you turn up and everyone has something on their head and you don't. And with so many different options, from a straw hat, to an elegant crown, or simple headband, you've got no reason not to join in.

DON'T WEAR THE WRONG UNDERGARMENTS

A visible underpants line or uncomfortable bra strap will weigh on your mind all day. Opt for seamless bottoms, and a convertible bra you can adjust to fit under any style of dress.

DON'T CARRY A BAG WITHOUT A STRAP

While a clutch is always a beautiful statement, the last thing you want is to be leaving it behind after you're racing to collect your winnings (or another drink). A sling bag is the easiest solution, so you can keep both hands free.
