8 Proven Ways to Wear More Colour This Spring
As someone whose favourite colour in the rainbow is black—yes, I know it’s not actually in the rainbow—even I am compelled to wear colour at times, especially this time of year when spring merchandise is finally dropping and the stores and streets are filled with bold, bright clothing. Not surprisingly, the Who What Wear team feels the same, and collectively, we’ve all come up with some useful hacks for infusing colour into our daily dressing routines.
Scroll through for the ways we’ve found to wear more colour that actually work!
The Tip: Go for light-wash jeans.
"I find that spring colors typically look the prettiest with light-wash jeans. I just purchased this pair for that exact reason. (I also love these.) So when planning outfits that have some colour in them but you don't know where to start, put on a pair of light wash jeans, add some colourful pieces, and voilà! The perfect spring outfit is born. Just try it." — Allyson Payer
The Tip: Try a new twist on monochrome.
"If you get tripped up on figuring out which colours match with each other (and which shouldn't be worn together), just stick to varying shades of the same colour family. For example, pair a fuscia blouse with a pair of red pants. The result is a cool twist on the monochrome look that's super easy to execute.” — Erin Fitzpatrick
The Tip: Buy a bright dress.
"I find that the best way to incorporate colour into your wardrobe, especially if you don't normally wear it, is to buy brightly coloured dresses. That way you won't struggle with what else to pair with it like you would if it were a top. All you need to do is throw on neutral sandals and go!" — Lauren Eggertsen
The Tip: Think all or nothing.
"I've found when trying to wear coloUr, it's almost easier to put together an outfit entirely of non-black pieces than when you try to match coloUr with black. So, if I have a colourful piece I want to wear, I always look for other non-black pieces (such as denim) in my closet to wear with it." — Nicole Akhtarzad
The Tip: Let your jacket do the work.
"I know they traditionally say to add colour with your accessories, but I personally love a statement jacket for a simple and easy fix. Pair an embroidered bomber or cool track jacket with an otherwise-neutral outfit for an instantly brighter look." — Carson Olivares
