Australian brand, Spell & The Gypsy Collective is launching its new Celestial collection next Thursday, February 8 at 10am AEDT, and to say we’re excited is an understatement. Known for its free spirited, whimsical style, Spell & The Gypsy Collective is a favourite of some of Australia’s most fashionable women. Worn by everyone from influencers like Byron local Olive Cooke, to international superstar Margot Robbie, Spell’s dreamy designs have definitely gained a worthy fan base.

Judging by the campaign imagery, which was shot in San Francisco, the Celestial collection is sure to be a hit; it’s like a collection of all the amazing pieces you’ve dreamed of finding at a vintage store, but updated. While maintaining Spell’s defining bohemian aesthetic, the collection is also fashion-forward with its fun prints and modern silhouettes.

To get more on the new collection and what else we can expect from the brand, we interviewed the sisters behind the brand, Elizabeth Abegg and Isabella Pennefather. Keep scrolling for a sneak peek of the collection and to read what they have to say:

WHO WHAT WEAR: What inspired the Celestial collection?

ELIZABETH ABEGG & ISABELLA PENNEFATHER: We looked to the daughters of legendary rockers for inspiration when designing Celestial, the Georgia May Jaggers, the Liv Tylers, the Francis Bean Cobains. There is a real nostalgia to the way these women present themselves, but we wanted to explore the modern-ness and confidence that these women bring to that nostalgia.

WWW: Why did you choose to shoot the campaign in San Francisco?

EA & IP: San Francisco was the first international city that I visited in my 20s and it captured my heart immediately. I loved its rich, musical history and colourful culture and all the musty vintage shopping on offer—historians still deem Height Ashbury as the birth of the hippy movement after all! It worked perfectly as a backdrop to Celestial, which is all psychedelic-paisley and rock-chick vibes. I imagined our muse sitting in the bay window of some Victorian row-house, and heading out to scour a dusty old record store.

WWW: What can we expect from the brand in 2018?

EA & IP: Our big focus, other than creating beautiful collections, is on our People + Planet project, ensuring we are creating consciously to offer our customers the most sustainable and ethical product we can. We've  been working hard on partnering with Artisan groups around the world, sourcing sustainable fibres and reducing our environmental footprint and we’ve also just released our first sustainable collection with our Little Gypsies (childrenswear) range. We are pretty excited about the initiatives to come—our whole team is so energised and inspired because walking lighter on the planet is one of the reasons we live in Byron Bay in the first place.
