At this point we'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't have a pair of sneakers (or 12) in her weekly outfit rotation. Part of that can be attributed to the all-important comfort factor, but we'd also like to point out that the right pair can hold its own alongside even the most polished of heeled shoes. Exhibit A: Even the most stylish editors, models, and industry influencers opted for sneaks over sky-high heels during fashion month this year.
One of the aforementioned influencers drinking the sneaker Kool-Aid is Ashley Brooke, fashion blogger and founder of digital magazine and style community The Life by Her. As an entrepreneur, Brooke relies on chic sneaker options to maintain her hectic yet fashionable lifestyle. Her favourite picks as of late come from Keds, and luckily she was game to show us three stylish ways to wear them without sacrificing sophistication.
On those days where we'd really rather be hanging around in our sweatpants, Brooke suggests pulling on a pair of comfy cotton culottes. We love the way they show off her cute kicks and that they're trendy enough to pass for trousers. Layered with a tee and a leather jacket, this look is ideal for long days working from a café or travelling on a plane, Brooke tells us. It doesn't hurt that the shoes are slip-ons (read: TSA-friendly).
When work involves a daytime event, Brooke elevates her cropped pants–and-sneakers combo by replacing her culottes with cool patent-leather trousers. Her shoes quite literally get a lift as well in the form of this sleek platform style. Paired with a modern silky button-down, this outfit might just become our new workday go-to. Bonus: The look is so comfortable that we'll be walking to our favourite lunch spot instead of ordering delivery.
On her off-duty days, Brooke leans into menswear-inspired dressing by throwing on a cuffed pair of pants, a baker-boy hat, and an oversize sweater. The textured fabric of her grey kicks not only complements the rest of her neutral outfit but also provides breathability. We never know where a weekend day of exploring our city will take us, but we do know that sweaty feet are not an option.
