An Obituary for the Crossbody Bag and the Details on Its Successor

Was that too dramatic? I’m sorry. I guess I should clarify that I don’t actually have anything against the crossbody bag, but I can’t help but comment on the fact that since shoulder bags and smaller totes have slowly begun to rise in popularity (again), the title of favorite hands-free bag seems to be slipping away from the style, and it just feels right.

I mean, I, for one, missed clutching my purse tightly underneath my arms or letting it rest in the crease of my elbow, and we can all admit that it’s definitely a sleeker and chicer look. With Prada’s Sidonie, Dior’s saddle, and, most recently, Fendi’s Baguette revival all in the spotlight, and a slew of more under-the-radar iterations by from the likes of By Far, Saks Potts, and Rejina Pyo on their way to being classics, it seems that there’s no time like the present to either bring back your old shoulder bag or invest in a new one.

To see how everyone from It girls to editors are wearing the style on Instagram then, of course, shop my favorite shoulder bags for yourself, just keep scrolling.

Shop my favorite shoulder bags:

I've had my eye on this affordable style for a while now.

This bag is even cooler in of-the-moment tie-dye.

Baby blue is the color I'm seeing everywhere right now and I'm so tempted to make a purchase.

Rejina Pyo sure knows now to make an everyday bag not feel basic.

A hard-to-find, actually affordable classic shape.

It's not in style unless Zara has a version.

Minimalists need this simple bag (that also comes in black).

The bag everyone is searching The Real Real for these days.
