Knotted Head Wraps

by Who What Wear
We adore anything that can help us conceal a not-so-great hair day. As such, it probably comes as no surprise that we are huge fans of dry shampoo, hats, and the focus of today's Runway to Real Way: the knotted head wrap. Spotted on the Marc Jacobs S/S 12 runway and seen on the likes of Rihanna, Nicole Richie, and Lana Del Rey, this hair accessory can reference anything from old Hollywood glamour to rockabilly flair.

To ensure you look modern and marvellous instead of kitschy, one thing is imperative: don't use a bandana. (It's a little too Rosie the Riveter.) Instead, take inspiration from the runway and go for an elegant fabric like silk. Marc Jacobs showed a Radzimir Head Wrap ($185) in a stunning shade of cornflower blue, while hair accessories guru Jennifer Behr designed a Matte Silk Kerchief Headwrap ($148) in a striking chartreuse and ice blue. Of course, investing isn't necessary; you could also pick up Madewell's Flag Headscarf ($14) for a song, though you'll have to fold and tie it yourself.
