Meghan, Kate, and Queen Letizia All Pack This Comfy Shoe Trend for Traveling
You know we love a good royal tour. Recently, we covered Meghan Markle's tour of South Africa and Kate Middleton's trip to Pakistan, and now we're in store for yet another international journey. This week, Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain embarked on an official four-day visit to Cuba. As expected, the queen knew exactly what to wear for each occasion, including a casual outfit for a stroll in Havana to learn about its history, and a sharp dress for a tour of the city's Molecular Immunology Center.
One of Queen Letizia's Cuba outfits stood out to me: her white Carolina Herrera dress, which she paired with Mint & Rose espadrille wedges. I couldn't help but connect the shoe trend to a couple of other famous royals: Markle and Middleton. That's because they too love to wear espadrille wedges while traveling internationally. Markle packed her favorite pair for both South Africa and Australia, while Middleton wore hers in India. When a trio of stylish royals all wear the same shoe trend on trips, you know it's a good one.
Espadrilles are not exactly winter-appropriate, but they're a classic item that will always be in style. Plus, they're perfect for packing if you're lucky enough to have a tropical getaway on your calendar this season. Scroll down to see how the royals have worn espadrille wedges on royal tours.

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 12 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of senior news editor (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
