As the year comes to a close, we’re rounding off the biggest trends (chokers and bomber jackets), the best street style, and the most breathtaking celebrity style. But what about the pieces you actually bought? We reached out to The Iconic, one of Australia’s largest fashion retailers, to find out the most popular items purchased on the site in 2016.

In 2016, The Iconic sold enough women’s shoes that if laid out in one line, they would reach from Sydney to Fraser Island in QLD (approx. 1200km), with the most popular styles sold being Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars ($100), and Nike Air Max Thea ($140). Absolutely no surprise there that sneakers reigned supreme. This year saw everyone from Gigi and Kendall to Victoria Beckham embrace the comfy shoe.

Keeping on the athleisure train, if you took all of the sunglasses sold on The Iconic in 2016 and stacked them on top of each other, they would equal the height of 120 Empire State Buildings in New York City (approx. 46 km). Quay Australia aviators were best sellers, as were any mirrored lenses.

But the statistic that surprised us most? Blush pink coloured product outsold white 2:1. We recently hailed pink as the colour of 2016, but it’s crazy to think it out-sold the staple shade of white. The pieces we bought the most? Wrap dresses and tops from Maurie & Eve, Backstage Clothing, MLM, and Mink Pink.
