The Workwear Anchor Pieces You Need in 2017

With a new year, comes an opportunity to give your work wardrobe a good cleanse. While it’s good to have a style refresh, don't forget to upgrade your staples too. The pencil skirt you wear at least one or two times a week won’t last forever, which is why it’s important to buy new classic pieces. The good news is, this year, those key pieces are having a makeover. Maybe it’s time to swap your black skirt for grey—a new neutral—or give your white shirt the toss and swap in one with a bit more personality.

Keep scrolling to see the pieces we’re adding to our work wardrobes to start 2017 in the most stylish way possible.

If you work in an office, chances are your wardrobe is home to at least a few black skirts. This year, we're lightening up and adding grey pieces (like Christine Centenera below). The colour still looks sophisticated, and it means you can wear all the black tops you have on rotation without always being in head-to-toe black.

Every work wardrobe needs a simple pair of black pumps, but the 2017 version, comes with a low heel. Which is perfect for when you're running around, and don't want to carry multiple pairs of shoes with you.

Something simple that you can throw over any outfit will make getting ready in the morning that much faster. We like a simple trench coat in a neutral colour to wear over everything from skirts to pants and dresses. (And then you can wear it on the weekend over your hoodie and jeans when the weather cools down, too.)

Olivia Palermo will forever be our style inspo, and if she can make printed pants look this good, then you can too. This year, make your work wardrobe a little more fun with a neutral pair of printed pants.

White shirts have had a big update since you last bought one for work. Now it's no longer about a simple silhouette, but something extra. Like a ruffled sleeve, wide cuff, or embellished lapel.
