The Instagram Account With Refreshingly Honest Fashion Illustrations
There's a special place in our hearts for fashion illustrators. Dynamic lines and playful proportions that visually dance across the page to convey otherworldly sartorial creations are things that will always set our hearts aflutter. And while we appreciate gorgeous designs fit to be commissioned by the top fashion houses and glossies, our interest is also piqued by a unique sense of quirkiness that gives an artist that extra something that keeps us coming back for more.
If you're looking for fashion illustration that's less haute and more honest, and delivers hilariously relatable sensibilities while not compromising on artistry, Nina Cosford fits the bill. The Hastings and London-based artist has been gracing the world with her playful drawings in a series of books celebrating exceptional women, a collaboration with HBO's Girls, and a fantastical feed of Instagram posts. She describes the latter to WWD as "just little running commentaries really, with side notes—thoughts jotted down around them." Last week she released her latest effort, a 128-page graphic novel titled My Name Is Girl: An Illustrated Guide to the Female Mind. Within its pages, she investigates through illustration the special relationship between fashion and female self-image. Her insights about style are just as illuminating as they are entertaining, all conveyed through charming illustrations that capture our everyday sartorial woes.
