Last night's Met Gala red carpet was one for the record books. Celebrities boldly experimented with the camp theme, resulting in outfits that celebrated playfulness, exaggeration, artifice, and excess. We loved Katy Perry's chandelier look, Zendaya's light-up gown, and Lady Gaga's voluminous number, but the dresses weren't the only thing that caught our eye: The jewelry on the red carpet was simply breathtaking and deserving of a close-up look.

A slew of celebrities took full advantage of jewelry's ability to transform an outfit. Lily Collins, for instance, was lucky enough to debut the Cartier Magnitude High Jewelry Collection necklace, which is a particularly special piece. Cartier gathered a set of seven rare, round emeralds from Colombia totaling 46.09 carats. Taking inspiration from kinetic art, the necklace features contrasts of colors, geometric shapes, and optical effects. Now that's what we call a statement necklace. Scroll down to get all the info on the rest of our favorite jewelry pieces from the 2019 Met Gala.

Erin Fitzpatrick
Senior News Editor

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 12 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of senior news editor (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
