How to Make Loungewear Look Expensive

Over the last century, there have been various manifestations of loungewear—from the elegant peignoirs of the early 20th century to the silken co-ords of the '70s to the penchant for underwear as outerwear in the '90s. Fast-forward to 2019, and loungewear has taken on a whole new personality. This time, though, we can safely say it's looking pretty high-end.

Fashion is clearly having a love affair with loungewear, but it's not loungewear as you know it. The moment I saw cooler-than-thou womenswear brand Joseph stocking luxe tracksuit bottoms and souped-up sports hoodies, I knew something was shifting. I wouldn't usually consider myself a lover of sporty styles, but there was something so undeniably chic about these camel-colored (ultra-comfy) pieces.

My suspicions were confirmed when I turned to Instagram and the latest street style shots from fashion week. Fashion editors and celebs alike were stepping out in knitted trousers, luxe jogging bottoms, and cozy co-ords, but interestingly, these outfits looked just as expensive as the grandiose gowns and extroverted ensembles of their fellow showgoers. No longer reserved for living rooms and Spin classes, these casual pieces were born to be worn with heels and chunky gold jewelry.

Scroll down to see how our favorite stylish individuals are repping the luxe loungewear trend this season.

Luxe Joggers + Tonal Blazer

Style Notes: Lisa Aiken exudes high-end appeal in this head-to-toe beige outfit. She cleverly balances out the slouch of her knitted joggers with leopard-print heels and a sharp blazer.

Camel Knit + Tech Fabric Joggers

Style Notes: Stacey Dooley has got to be one of our luxe loungewear muses, as she has refined the art of pairing laid-back staples with polished separates. Just look at the way that she's paired these high-tech track pants with a camel knit and gold jewelry.

Style Notes: We love everything about this Rosie Huntington-Whiteley ensemble. The key to its success lies in the textural contrast between the fine-knit jumper and silken trousers. The fabric combination makes it look so expensive.

Lounge Pants + Slogan Sweater

Style Notes: Logo silk trousers might sound like a tricky style to tackle, but Lucy Williams makes it look easy with a slogan sweater and white trainers. Perfect for Sunday-brunch chic.

Knitted Set + Gold Jewelry

Style Notes: Everyone is obsessed with knitted co-ords right now (perhaps because they are the ultimate cozy yet pulled-together pairing). Make like Monikh and wear yours with minimal adornments: Gold hoops or a pendant necklace will do.
