The 9 Pieces That Are Taking Over London Right Now

There are certain items (often from Zara) that I see women wearing almost every day on my commute. There have even been Instagram accounts set up in order to showcase these cult pieces, such as that Zara dress. I did some thorough research to discover the most-spotted items this month (i.e., I asked the Who What Wear UK office and put the question into all my WhatsApp groups) to see which pieces were the most popular in London. It quickly became clear that there are some high-street hits you're bound to see in any office or underground station in the capital. In fact, you might already own some of them.

Currently, the wardrobes of the average Londoner is in a state of transition. While we're still seeing a lot of slip dresses and skirts, instead of strappy sandals being paired with them, we're spotting stomper boots or big sandals, particularly from Dr Martens. And on the subject of chunkier footwear, although white plimsolls are definitely super popular, the "dad" sneakers are still going strong as our editor-in-chief Hannah Almassi said she's spotted a lot of Nike Air Max 97s on the streets of London lately. Other pieces that the capital's women are rating? Frothy blouses, especially one from & Other Stories, wide-leg jeans, block heel court shoes, and culottes are the most popular items.

Keep scrolling to see the nine items we're seeing all over London this month.

1. Dr Martens

Thanks to the transitioning weather and it being actually cold this week, Londoners are favouring DM boots paired with skirts, dresses and jeans.

2. Slip Skirts

Thankfully, the slip skirt is still going strong. The good thing is that they look fantastic with a chunky knit and a pair of the above DMs. And if the weather suddenly turns warmer, you can wear a T-shirt underneath to maximise on the sunshine.

3. Nike Air Max 97

We were surprised to discover that these sneakers are really popular right now, especially as we know a lot of Londoners love the more simple trainers from Veja. But everyone needs a sneaker selection for different looks and days, right?

4. Gucci Marmont Bag

If you're going to invest in a designer bag, why not make it Gucci? The Marmont bags now come in various different sizes and colours so you're guaranteed to find one to suit your taste. A great everyday luxury bag and we know they're actually popular in many other cities across the UK too.

5. Block Court Shoes

When you need something smarter than a pair of stomping boots but are too cold for strappy heels, then the block heel court shoe is ideal. I spotted one woman wearing the below heels with a pair of wide-leg jeans and they made the outfit look incredibly polished.

6. Sheer floral blouses

Floral blouses are everywhere on the high street right now. The one I spot the most? The floral red yellow and blue version from & Other Stories. While that one has nearly sold out (but quick, there are still some left), there are other options that are just as chic.

7. Plissé Culottes

Another great option for the weather that isn't freezing but isn't warm is a pair of culottes. The versions we've spotted the most are the ribbed or plisseé styles, which have been around for a few seasons and don't seem to be slowing down in terms of popularity.

8. Wide-Leg Jeans

Wide-leg jeans are making quite the comeback at the moment—and fast taking over from skinny jeans in certain stylish circles. From Weekday to Zara, there plenty of places to find a great affordable pair.

9. Slip Dresses

Another big-hitter from the summer is the slip dress. Much like the slip skirt, you can still wear these right into autumn by pairing with a jumper or warmer jacket and boots.
