Last spring, Kate Moss launched her eponymous modelling agency—and with almost three decades of experience in the biz, she’s essentially the dream mentor for any up-and-comer. The 43-year-old fronts the April issue of British Vogue and discusses her approach to her new role, including her “maternal” protectiveness over the models her agency represents.

“I don’t want a young girl to feel bad if she has to wait around,” she explains of the modelling life. “I was that person with Steven Meisel, even though I was the face of CK [Calvin Klein] at the time. I had to sit around for days. It can be really hard. I’m maternal; I don’t want the girls to feel insecure.” And while Moss wants to share her personal experiences with models to ease their nerves, she discusses her natural transition into launching an agency, too.

“As a model, I am prepared to stand in a bikini at the end of an ice glacier when it’s minus 30 because that is what the client has booked me to do and that’s the job,” she explains. “So, as I get older, it seemed like the natural thing to do was to take responsibility for my choices both as a model and with the branding I put my name to.” The full interview is featured in the magazine, which hits newsstands this Friday.
