How I Reset My Wardrobe for 2017
I’m not really one for a resolution, but I do like to re-organise my life come January 1. I hate clutter and feeling like I’m drowning in “stuff”, so each year I spend some time on New Year’s Day sorting out my life. I clean out the fridge and pantry, reorganise my linen cupboards, give the whole house a good scrub, and then get to the fun part—resetting my outfit goals for the year.
My style doesn’t change too much year on year, but I definitely make little tweaks. Over the last few years, I’ve been focused on building up my core basics—an Acne Mock Leather Jacket ($2350), a serious collection of Bassike jeans, Scanlan Theodore midi skirts, and an ever-growing stack of quality T-shirts. And how do I keep everything fresh and updated? Accessories or a statement ‘third piece’.
This year, when I sat down to decide what I’d buy in 2017, and how I’d define my style, I reached for my iPhone (standard), and opened up Instagram (also standard). But it’s the new bookmark tool that made my wardrobe reset come together really easily. I visited a few of my favourite Instagram accounts (Who What Wear Australia, Net-a-Porter, Collage Vintage) and ‘bookmarked’ some of the looks I liked best. It then curates all the images into a ‘saved’ tab on Instagram, that only you can see.
