Founder of Playboy Hugh Hefner Passes Away at 91
Founder of the Playboy brand, and all-round publishing legend Hugh Hefner has passed away at 91. In a statement to E! News, Playboy confirmed "Hugh M. Hefner, the American icon who in 1953 introduced the world to Playboy magazine and built the company into one of the most recognizable American global brands in history, peacefully passed away today from natural causes at his home, The Playboy Mansion, surrounded by loved ones."
Hefner can be credited with introducing us to the likes of Anna Nicole Smith, and helping solidify Marilyn Monroe's career in the early '50s.
