Call me a voyeur, but I love discovering what people are searching for, buying, and coveting. I've already delved into statistics about the most valuable jewelry items, the most googled items Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have worn, and the most searched-for underwear brand. For this story, I did a little experiment to find out people's burning fashion questions.

In Brightedge, a search engine optimization platform, I typed in the words "how to wear" and then looked for the keywords with the highest monthly search volume. As it turns out, the people of the internet are befuddled about scarves. The phrase "how to wear scarves" has 18,100 searches per month, beating out every other "how to wear" query. Scroll down to find out the other fashion questions people are googling and read our answers for each.

How to Wear a Scarf

1. Tie It Around Your Neck

Drape the scarf around your neck, leaving one end longer than the other. Wrap the long end around your neck twice. Knot the ends, and tuck any remaining material either under the scarf or inside your shirt.

2. Wear It on Your Head

Choose a printed silk square scarf for this look. Fold it in half diagonally to create a triangle, and then tie it together at the nape of your neck. It never hurts to do a double knot to make sure it stays in place.

3. Toss One Side Over Your Shoulder

This one's a no-brainer. Let one side of the scarf fall over your back like the nonchalant street style star you are. Bonus points if it's a cozy plaid version for fall and winter.

Here's official proof that simply throwing a scarf around your neck can look chic. Emulate this model and choose a brightly colored scarf to add oomph to an otherwise neutral outfit.

How to Wear a Beanie

1. Above Hairline

Push your beanie so it sits just above your hairline. If you have bangs, this is the perfect option for showing them off and avoiding dreaded hat hair. Bonus points if you team your beanie with an oversize jacket and Vans Old Skool sneakers.

2. At Mid-Forehead

Another option is to wear your beanie mid-forehead. This is an easier-to-wear option than the first since your beanie is less likely to slip off.

Last but not least, you can pull your beanie all the way to your eyebrows for maximum coziness. All the better if it matches your sweater.

How to Wear a Bandana

1. Tie It Around Your Neck

Fold your bandana in half to form a triangle. Then, starting at the long end, fold the bandana down to create a three- or four-inch rectangle-like fold. Keep this width and continue folding until you reach the point. Wrap the bandana around your neck and tie the ends in a knot on the side. If you have a larger bandana, you may need to wrap it around your neck twice before knotting.

First, secure your ponytail or bun with a hair tie. Fold your bandana in half to create a triangle. Starting at the long end, fold the bandana again, this time to create a rectangle-like fold two inches wide. Keep this width and continue folding until you reach the point. Wrap the bandana around your ponytail and tie in a knot.

Fold your bandana in half to create a triangle. Starting at the long end, fold the bandana again, this time to create a rectangle-like fold two-inches wide. Tie the scarf ends around the base of your neck in a double-knot, leaving the triangle part in front.

Senior News Editor

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 12 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of senior news editor (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
