Our Holiday Outfit Lineup Consists of These Chic (and Affordable) H&M Pieces

Welcome to This or That, a series where two Who What Wear editors go head-to-head on the biggest trends and make the case for all the It items they're currently coveting.

It feels like just yesterday that fellow Who What Wear editor Caitie Schlisserman and I were discussing all of the swimwear trends that we were eyeing for summer. Somehow we've made it to the holidays (I'm still confused as to where time has gone), and just like that, our chats have shifted from what we're wearing on pool days in the sun to what we're throwing together for the array of holiday festivities bubbling up on our calendars.

Though the seasons have changed, one thing has remained the same: our love for H&M and its consistently on-trend and affordable selection. We decided to go through the newest collection and choose the styles that we were leaning toward for all of our upcoming events. We may have different preferences when it comes to this season's trends, but all of our picks were, without a doubt, insanely cute (if I do say so myself).

Caitie: "I love the idea of wearing a matching set to a holiday party over a mini dress. It's less expected and will for sure cut the time it takes me to get ready in half because I won't need to spend time thinking about what pieces I should style together. Anything that can save me time this time of year—sign me up!"

Anneliese: "Even though I could shout my love for dresses from the rooftops, I wasn't particularly a mini-dress lover until this year. I have super long legs and always used to feel uncomfortable wearing mini dresses around. But this year, I've fully embraced the style. I love pairing them with an oversize blazer and a cool pair of boots or strappy heels."

Caitie: "Chic with a capital C. Nothing makes me feel as pulled together as a pair of trousers. Plus I'm a sucker for white this time of year, so it really feels like a winning combo."

Anneliese: "I feel like my love for dresses goes hand in hand with my love for skirts. At the end of the day, they're just plain comfortable. And who doesn't like being dressed up without feeling like they are?"

Caitie: "Cable-knit sweaters all the way! Not only do I love them for myself (even though I rarely get the opportunity to pull one out in L.A.), but they make great gifts, too. They're cozy, classic, and look good styled with jeans and boots or layered over a midi skirt. You can't go wrong."

Anneliese: "I've always been such a big of fan of ribbed fabric, and this year it is having a moment. Whether it's a top, a midi dress, or pants (have you seen sweater pants?), I'm all in."

Caitie: "Don't get me wrong, I love a good party heel, but I always like it when an outfit plays with juxtaposition, especially during the holidays. People assume you'll throw on a pair of heels with a party dress, so why not wear chunky boots instead?"

Anneliese: "I'm not really a heels person any other time of the year except for the holidays. I feel like it's the season where I tend to get the most dressed up. I mean, why not go all out?"
