25 Years Later, Gwyneth Paltrow Just Rewore This Iconic Outfit

Celebrities re-wearing their most memorable outfits? We love to see it. But what we appreciate even more is when a celeb pays homage to an outfit they originally wore decades earlier. Granted, this doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's the stuff of fashion gold. And today, we have one such nugget to share with you.

Gwyneth Paltrow wears a red velvet suit designed by Alessandro Michele for Gucci to the brand’s 2021 Love Parade fashion show.

Gwyneth Paltrow's style influence has spanned over 30 years, which undoubtedly means she has one of the best wardrobes in the business. It's so good that even she can't help but be inspired by it from time to time. Just last night, Gwynnie stepped out in a chic ruby-red velvet suit that we were into from the get-go. Then it dawned on us—we'd seen her in something very similar before… a cool 25 years ago

Gwyneth Paltrow wears a red velvet suit designed by Tom Ford for Gucci to the 1996 VMAs.

To attend Gucci's Love Parade fashion show in Los Angeles, Paltrow slipped into a two-piece that bore a striking resemblance to the iconic suit she wore to the 1996 VMAs, which was designed by Tom Ford for Gucci for the brand's A/W collection that year. It turns out Paltrow wasn't the only one nostalgic for the Gucci archives. The modern-day iteration of the suit was created by the brand's current creative director, Alessandro Michele, in honor of Gucci's 100th anniversary earlier this year. We expect to see lots more of the centennial collection over the next few months, especially as we track towards award season.

The suit made an appearance on the runway of Gucci’s Aria collection 100th-anniversary show in April 2021.

Just like she did in 1996, Gwyneth styled her suit with a delicate pale-blue shirt in a satin fabric, left nonchalantly undone at the collar, and a pair of red platform shoes. Even her hair and makeup looked remarkably similar—her lengths pinned into a relaxed chignon and her eyes defined with kohl smudged liner. To be honest, if it weren't for the slightly questionable '90s image quality, we don't know if we'd be able to tell you which look was 2021 and which was 1996. Thanks, Gwyneth, for reminding us to think twice (and thrice) before we donate anything from our wardrobes.

Should you wish to re-create her velvet-suit look for yourself—you already know it’s a winner, after all—we've rounded up a selection of worthy options to shop now, including the very same suit she wore this time around.
