Kirsten Dunst

Before we even start, we have a disclosure to make: we are longtime appreciators of all things Kirsten Dunst, ever since her pre-teen turn in Interview with the Vampire, a movie she totally stole from co-stars Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. Since that impressive role, our adoration has only continued to grow, as Dunst's created some of our favourite film characters of all time, ranging from the dreamy and doomed Lux Lisbon in The Virgin Suicides to the cheerocracy-crazed Torrance Shipman in Bring It On to the plucky, redheaded Mary Jane Watson in Spider Man. Plus, in addition to her silver screen work, Dunst is equally skilled at creating memorable fashion moments in both her professional and personal life. While ever evolving, Dunst tends to favour clothing that has an unfussy French spirit or simple pieces with a vintage vibe (she executes everything from flapper-girl chic to '70s soignee with ease). As such, it's no wonder that she's a fashion-world darling, serving as everything from a muse for Rodarte to the face of Bulgari's Jasmin Noir fragrance and Boy. Band of Outsiders' recent campaigns. Considering all of this-and the fact that Dunst's newest film, Melancholia, for which she received the Best Actress prize at Cannes, debuts in limited release today-we knew she'd be the perfect person to act as our November Guest Editor. From her signature scent to her go-to thrifty thrill, read on for all of Dunst's essentials in today's story!

L'Artisan Parfumeur Passage D'Enfer Eau De Toilette ($100)
Of all the fragrances in the world, Dunst called out L'Artisan Parfumeur's Passage D'Enfer as her absolute favourite. We have to agree with her pick, as the scent is quite mesmerising and addicting, despite it's ominous name ("passage d'enfer" literally translates to "passage to hell," but idiomatically is closer to "rite of passage"). Thanks to a delicate blend of lily and white musks, it has just the right amount of sweetness and femininity without being too overpowering.

Ralph Lauren Cashmere Cable Throw ($595) in Cream
Whether you wish to admit it or not, most of us have some sort of security blanket that we can't live without. Whether it's an uber-comfortable piece of bedding or a well-worn t-shirt, it's something comforting that gets you through the night. In Dunst's case, it's Ralph Lauren's cream Cashmere Cable Throw. "I don't fly on a plane or sleep in a foreign place without it," Dunst says. And considering its incredibly soft fabric and chic look, we completely understand her reasoning! If you're not looking to invest quite so much, we'd like to direct you to Pottery Barn's Cosy Cable-Knit Throw ($79), which has a similar vibe and is available in five beautiful colours.

Petrossian Signature Totes ($10-$15)
While most people flock to Petrossian to stock up on the world's best caviar and other gourmet delicacies, we were amused to find that Dunst has a fondness for the company's signature totes. Why, you may ask? According to our GE, in addition to being a practical choice for picnics and storing perishable items, these blue canvas carriers can also function as a great toiletry bag! Whether you're constantly on the go or just in need of some extra storage, consider these totes a fabulous option for all your beauty necessities.

A.P.C. Candle No. 2 ($45) in Jasmine Vert
Not only is A.P.C. responsible for some of the best clothing and accessories available on the market, but the brand also produces some pretty fantastic home items too-specifically, a wonderful assortment of candles! Though our GE is partial to the calming Jasmine Vert, we recommend picking up all five delicious scents, including Orange Flower and Toumbac, because let's be honest: you can never have too many amazing candles!

St. Mark's Place Silver Hoop Earrings
If there's one thing we've learned from today's GE story-other than the fact that Dunst has amazing taste and Petrossian totes can double as cute toiletry bags-it's that you don't have to break the bank to find a quality pair of great silver hoop earrings. When it comes to finding this essential jewellery item, Dunst heads to New York's infamous St. Marks Place, where she picks up chic iterations for a song! If you can't get to NYC, Aldo's Kitchin Hoop Earrings ($8) are an almost identical pair.

Orla Kiely F/W11 Lookbook Image
Dunst is known for wearing plenty of Chanel, Chloe, and Rodarte, but when it comes to her favourite party ensemble, she named Orla Kiely as her go-to designer. "I love her clothes," Dunst says, "they're really whimsical, yet practical." She was particularly drawn to the look above, which features a cream blouse tucked into a pair of high-waisted black flared trousers. It's definitely a bit more sober than her red carpet attire, but equally stylish and feminine.

Sonia Rykiel Exquise Heels ($1055, 617.426.2033) in Red
When asked about her favourite shoe for fall, Dunst aptly responded with Sonia Rykiel's Exquise Heels. Her reasoning was simple: versatility. "They're mules, they're pumps, and they're Mary Janes!" she says. We love that they're simultaneously sexy and chic, just like Dunst, and can't help but think they would perfectly compliment a slew of holiday outfits this season. If you'd like to try a less pricey option, don't miss Fergie's Beatnick Sandals ($90), which have an equally show-stopping presence or Sam Edelman's Marina Pumps ($130) for which are less va-va-voom and more ladylike.

Rodarte for Opening Ceremony High Neck Maxi Dress ($1035) in Icy Mint
If you've followed Dunst closely over the last few years, you're probably familiar with her fondness for all things Rodarte. As such, we weren't surprised to see that one of her must-haves for fall is this diaphanous dress from the Mulleavy sisters' recent collaboration with Opening Ceremony. There's so much love about this frock, like its ruffled detailing and whimsical silhouette, which echoes Dunst's romantic red-carpet choices, and the ice mint hue, which would look perfect against her fair skin.
