Tessa Thompson Proved That This *Extra* Accessory Is Making a Serious Comeback
While many of fashion's top names were busy either receiving or handing out awards at Monday night's Fashion Awards in London, a select few were holding down the fort in NYC at the 2021 Gotham Awards. One attendee, in particular, was Tessa Thompson, who used the occasion to test out one of winter's most over-the-top micro-trends: opera gloves.
Thompson, the star of Passing, one of the evening's most-nominated films, arrived on the red carpet wearing a lilac-colored moiré gown from Bach Mai that featured a high-low bubble hemline and a strapless bodice. She paired the dress with the aforementioned black latex opera gloves, also from Bach Mai, and a simple pair of pumps.
Her stunning ensemble managed to feel both reminiscent of the film's era—it's set in 1920s New York City—and today, when elbow-length gloves and moiré fabric are both spiking in popularity after making waves on the fall 2021 runways in February. Then again, her stylists, Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald, are some of the most renowned in fashion—of course, the look is good.
