Scarf-Print Blouses

What exactly is a scarf-print blouse, you ask? Simply put, these are silky affairs featuring pretty prints-the kind you'd typically find on a scarf, hence the name-like a swirling paisley pattern or dreamy watercolor floral. Our fling with scarf-print blouses first started when we spied Alberta Ferretti's Printed Silk Blouse ($995, 310.652.9000) paired with Printed Silk Trousers ($995, 310.652.9000) from her Resort 12 collection. We adore how the button-down's postcard-pretty scene, smothered in shades of lavender, coral, and blue, meshes imperfectly with the geometric pattern of the pants. Balmain's Olivier Rousteing also showed a slightly edgier ensemble for Resort 12: the Black Silk Shirt ($2723) in Eagle Print, loosely tucked into his Long Silk Pleated Skirt ($10279), for a look that's equal parts casual elegance and edgy cool. With these designer inspirations in mind, we knew you'd feel as enamoured with scarf-print blouses as we do, so we culled five truly outstanding pieces worthy of buying right now!

1. Sandro Express Printed Silk and Crepe Blouse ($385)
Sandro's richly-coloured necktie blouse is a study in colour contrasts-bands of yellow, burnt orange, and black alongside an intricate paisley pattern. The mélange of brilliant hues, in addition to a cheeky pussycat bow and semi-sheer back, makes this one head-turning piece. Daring dressers can punctuate the silk blouse with brightly-coloured trousers or a leather skirt, while those with slightly tamer style sensibilities can opt for solid dark pants.

2. Etro Paisley Print Blouse ($450) in Pastel Multi
Abstract coils of paisley, tinged in pastel, infuse Etro's ethereal button-down with a romantic essence that's perfect for spring. We envision countless ways to wear this one-of-a-kind piece-with tailored separates at the office, a flirty mini skirt for dinner dates, or skinny jeans for the weekend. In our humble opinion, the blouse's versatility and unique whimsical print elevate it to investment-piece status.

3. Zara Scarf Print Shirt ($80)
The first thought that came to mind after we spied Zara's scarf-print top? "Add to cart, please!" The wispy silk blouse features a detailed mosaic-inspired design in understated cream and brown. Tuck it into a flowing maxi skirt to create your own iteration of Balmain's runway look or pair it with an edgy mini (our standard night-out uniform), and you've got a piece that seamlessly assimilates into any closet.

4. Topshop Scarf Print Shirt ($80) in Black
A luxuriant design of interlocking chains, buckles, tassels, and botanic profusions twists its way around Topshop's button-down polyester shirt. The multicolored top, with shades of pink and gold popping against striking black, looks positively extravagant, but thankfully for scarf-print lovers everywhere, its price tag is reasonable.

5. DKNY Long Sleeve Button Through Cosy Blouse ($245, 212.223.3569) in Cadmium/Black
The minute we spotted this yellow stunner, we thanked our lucky scarf-print stars for DKNY. Against vivid saffron-coloured silk, the blouse bursts with a black and white decorative motif reminiscent of Gianni Versace's early '90s Baroque patterns. We adore its go-bold-or-go-home attitude, as well as the drapey panels you can tie up or leave hanging.-Tiffany Tse
