Red Carpet Essentials

by Who What Wear
You might not find yourself walking red carpets on the regular, but that doesn't mean you can't look premiere-polished. There are a handful of products anchoring any makeup artists' kit, the products that are best at what they do. From the perfect concealer to the ultimate smudge-free liner and a few names you already know--Nars Orgasm, Diorshow--we've compiled one handy list to take with you next time you're Sephora-bound. Clockwise from top left:

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara ($10) in Black Clinique's tiny brush is such a hit because it not only works wonders on the bottom lash line, but also the inner lashes that are nearly impossible to reach with a regular mascara brush. Makeup artist Monika Blunder uses it on Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Lorac Tantalizer Body Bronzing Luminizer ($32) Looking for a ten-second tan? Lorac's luminizer is just sparkly enough and washes off at the end of the night. Makeup artist Joey Maalouf uses it to give Jessica Alba her red carpet glow.

Tatcha Original Aburatorigami Blotting Papers ($12) It's hard to differentiate between a good and bad blotting paper, but these are flecked with gold, so they win. Heidi Klum and makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic agree.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner ($19) in Black Cry, swim, work out, splash your face with water-this is your best bet for a liner that will stay in place. Makeup artist Beau Nelson, who works with Blake Lively, Kristen Stewart, and Sienna Miller, is a big fan.

KloraneDry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($7.50) Aside from the fact that it works miracles, Klorane's Dry Shampoo's risen to its place atop the market because it's easy to use: there's no powder, no residue, nothing to blow dry out of your hair. Fans like Tory Burch and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld tote it around the world.

Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour ($32.50) in Gabrielle Chanel's Rouge Coco line of lipsticks are a perennial favourite because the colours are vibrant, the formula is moisturizing, and they stay in place. Makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua uses them on Jessica Biel.

Dior Diorshow Iconic Mascara ($28.50) in Black The thick brush used to apply this famous formula will make your lashes as big as possible-unless, of course, you want to break out the falsies. Makeup artist Jeffrey Paul uses it on clients like Emily Blunt and Freida Pinto.

Nars Blush ($28) in Orgasm The powder blush is often overshadowed by the multiple stick ($39), but this is easier to use, and subtler. Makeup artist Kristofer Buckle's used it on everyone from Christina Aguilera to Julianna Margulies, and W's Beauty Director Jane Larkworthy is a big fan, too.

Cle de Peau Concealer ($70) Nothing offers as much coverage while looking as natural as Cle de Peau's concealer. You'll find a stick in almost every purse behind the scenes of a fashion show, and celebrity makeup artists Jenn Streicher and Kayleen McAdams swear by the formula.

Guerlain Terracota Light Sheer Bronzing Powder ($50) Guerlain's bronzer isn't just a pretty compact-it's also the perfect powder to take you from a slight glow to an actual tan, depending on how aggressively you choose to apply. Makeup artist Jemma Kidd likes to layer it over blush.

Shu UemuraEyelash Curler Eyelash Curler ($19) The world's favourite eyelash curler has a mushroom-shaped pad to protect your lashes and a patented hinge to apply just the right amount of pressure and deliver the ideal curl. Makeup artist Jeannia Robinette uses it on clients like Lily Collins and Jessica Simpson.
