It can be difficult to create a distinct personal style when it feels like all of your friends are wearing the same Zara, Topshop, H&M, and ASOS pieces. And so the dilemma ensues: You want to look fashionable, but you also don’t want to drop all of your income on designer pieces that may only be a passing fad. While high-quality staples like classic handbags are usually worth the investment, high-street stores seem like a reasonable go-to when trying to stay sartorially relevant without spending heaps of money. But the problem is that everyone else agrees.
While middle-school you thought it was a cute idea to wear matching outfits with your BFF, something about showing up to dinner in the same top as someone else in the group is a definite buzz-kill. So, sorry Topshop. But it’s not you, it’s us—and Glassons.
Take a quick scroll through @glassons Instagram, and you’ll immediately notice that there are some new, trendy looks to be found there!
There’s no denying that Glassons has evolved over the years, and it has now developed its own distinctly fashionable vibe. Everything else aside, the affordability is a big plus as well. Not to mention, the fact that Glassons based in Australia and New Zealand means that the pieces are always in-season, compared to some other brands which are based overseas. Needless to say, we highly recommend you check out the brand’s chic new season before everyone catches on.
To get the inside scoop on how Glassons predicts which trends will be big, we interviewed the brand’s head designer, Sam Betts. Not only did she share details regarding the design process, but also gave us insight into which trends we can expect to see this autumn. To read the full interview, keep scrolling:
Which trends do you think will be big this autumn?
For autumn we are transforming last season’s look with lots of nanna florals and big checks in an earthy palette. Coordinate sets and tea blouses will be the new uniform, paired with everything high-waisted to create effortless chic dressing. We have also updated our (faux) furs and winter coats—lots of teddy coats which we think our customers will love!
90’s street style is back as well—bright, block colours with interesting shapes and textures, bold prints and great denim to create an effortlessly cool street vibe.
How has the brand evolved recently/ over time?
Glassons is built on a legacy of delivering fashion-focused, quality style at very affordable prices.
It’s important for us to be on trend, while also delivering fun fashion that pushes the envelope in terms of design and patterns. Our customers are super savvy and want to see new trends constantly.
While our retail stores are growing across Australia and New Zealand, digital has evolved with customer demands and is an important platform for us to talk to our customers via our @glassons Instagram and Snapchat , as well as our e-store.
What does your design team look like?
We’re actually quite a small team, and like to work collaboratively between Australia and New Zealand to ensure we are catering for all markets.
How do you anticipate what will be stylish in the next season?
We look to [what's happening] overseas—and also to our customers and what they will be wanting next.
Where do you find inspiration?
We live and breathe trends, designers and influencers online, constantly looking for new and cool. Inspiration trips can influence our style as well.
What is the vision for the brand? What do you think the future of Glassons will look like, in terms of fashion and design?
In the short term, we’re excited to be launching our new seasonal influencer social media campaign this weekend—watch out for it on our @glassons Instagram.
