Givenchy's New Creative Director Is a Surprising (and Exciting) Choice
It was only last year when the iconic Dior fashion house announced its appointment of its first female creative director. And with Maria Chiuri Grazia at the helm, the brand's success and celeb following have only continued to soar. Now another storied fashion institute has named a female creative director for the first time in its 65 year history. Today, Givenchy announced the official appointment of Clare Waight Keller, WWD reports.
Of course, you're already quite familiar with the name as Keller is the designer who’s been behind Chloé for the last six years. In her new role, she succeeds Riccardo Tisci, who recently stepped down after a 12-year tenure. But while it's inspiring to see Keller step into a role that has never been held by a woman, what’s even more exciting is the prospect of what she’ll do at Givenchy.
During Tisci’s time, he and the brand became synonymous with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West's style, and Beyoncé notably chose the brand over and over again for the annual Met Gala. But with Keller's interpretation of the daring, gothic, edgy brand, we wonder what this new era will look like. Will it continue to win over the most It celebs of the moment? Will it harken back to Hubert Givenchy earlier years when his eponymous line created Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's dress? Most likely it will be something completely unique. Time will tell.
