If there's one crucial buy for fall, it's a fresh pair of boots. As someone with a bit of a shoe obsession, I like to invest in a great new boot silhouette to carry me through the season, so I always keep my eye on the latest round of trends. Many styles in the F/W 23 collections piqued my interest, but five standout silhouettes have defined themselves as the season's it buys.

We saw labels like Jil Sander and Maison Margiela continue the metallics craze while other collections featured oversize waders. Styling was also top of mind, with second-skin boots replacing leggings under micro hemlines. But one thing is certain—there are so many cool silhouettes coming down the pipeline that I'm ready for. Here, see the five fall boot trends that are about to be huge.

Snakeskin isn't anything new in fashion, but it makes its way in and out of the top spot in the fashion cycle. Widely-loved label Khaite has taken the lead in incorporating the print in clothing and accessories, so I wasn't surprised to see it in multiple collections for the season ahead.

While waders were highly seen on the runways, so was the opposing style—second-skin boots. Think of them as a sleek replacement for leggings, as they were often seen styled under dresses or skirts.

Currently, there's a ton of red on the market, and the fiery color is coming for boots next. If you want to add a pop of color to your fall wardrobe, this is the shade to pick.

If you're always willing to try out the most trend-forward pieces, metallic boots are for you. They made a huge statement at Jil Sander and Missoni and are an easy way to add a "wow" factor to any outfit.

When I first saw this on the runway, I knew it might be a bit more niche, but if you're willing to take risks, why not? Extra-tall boots made a comeback this season, but the wide-leg feature of waders was the one that stood out. Fishing gear being fashionable was not on my 2022 bingo card.
