The Only Derby Day Fashion Story You Need to Read

Derby Day is on this Saturday, October 29, and it's typically one of the biggest days on the spring racing calendar. We actually think everyone is secretly there for the fashion. The dress code is black and white (the two shades fashion girls will never tire of), so everyone typically steps it up, and gets a little more experimental with shapes and styles.

Last year, we noticed every major celeb outfit had one thing in common—everyone chose to wear all-white. We wear black constantly in our everyday lives, so a day like Derby Day, is the perfect excuse and opportunity to step outside your comfort box.

White looks fresh on everyone, but it can be unforgiving. Be sure you're wearing nude underwear (no one wants VPL), and have baby wipes on hand in case of wine-spilling-related emergencies. Click through to see our favourite celebrity outfits from last year's Derby Day, and shop similar pieces to recreate the looks for yourself.

A structural top and matching skirt is an easy way to give your racing look a modern edge. All-white is the freshest option, and you'll find you'll wear each piece again and again with other separates in your wardrobe.

When given the opportunity to make a real fashion statement, do what J.Hawks does, and really own it. Dramatic sleeves, a sheer panel of lace, a backless style—when you're wearing white, almost anything goes (as long as you're sticking to the dress code).

There's something so chic about a white pants-suit. If going all girly isn't really 'you', opt for sleek pants and a matching top. Top it off with a broad-rim hat, and you have a timeless and classy look.
