6 Summer Trends Carrie Bradshaw Would Never Wear

It’s clear we have our favored style crushes here at Who What Wear—from Meghan Markle to Amal Clooney, Jessica Biel to J.Lo. But there’s one on-screen style icon we keep coming back to—the unmistakable Carrie Bradshaw. While Sex and the City may have ended 14 years ago (we can’t believe it’s been that long, either), we’re still looking at ways to channel her signature style, which poses the question: If Carrie’s character were still around today, what trends would she be wearing right now, and what styles would she clearly pass up?

Sarah Jessica Parker’s character was definitely one to mix things up, experiment with trends, and have fun with styles and silhouettes, but we believe there are certain trends that even fashion-forward Carrie would avoid. Below we’re highlighting six of them and sharing the trends she’d undoubtedly wear instead. Have fun reminiscing!

One of Carrie Bradshaw's favorite shoe styles is a huge trend this season. We're pretty sure she'd pass on the sporty, thick-soled sandal trend and opt for a pair of delicate, barely there strappy sandals or mules instead.

Trend She'd Pass Up: Shell Jewelry

Trend She'd Wear Instead: Pearl Jewelry

Both shells and pearls are trending hard this season, but we're quite certain Carrie would be on team pearl—which exudes a more sophisticated and refined look. Carrie loved to have fun with layering jewelry, so pair your pearls with cute diamond necklaces if you're looking to channel her vibe.

Trend She'd Wear Instead: Baguette Bag

The baguette bag trend has Carrie Bradshaw's name all over it. We're fairly sure Carrie would skip the earthy straw bags and raffia totes that are all the rage this summer in favor of this shoulder bag (she was particularly partial to a logo baguette bag from Fendi and Dior).

We wouldn't put it past Carrie to try acid-wash jeans, but the return of cargo pants would be a trend Carrie would be all over in 2019. Bring on the '90s utility pants this summer.

Trend She'd Pass Up: Shell-Shaped Sleeves

Trend She'd Wear Instead: Tank Tops

We're living in an interesting time of sleeves right now—from puff sleeves to voluminous shell sleeves (seen all over the runways), but we're pretty certain Carrie would skip those in summer 2019 and stay true to her penchant for white tank tops. We've covered the trend a lot lately—with celebs and fashion girls bringing back the simple basic. Carrie too wore them in abundance on SATC.

(Side note—if you're so inclined to go full Carrie this summer—the flower she's wearing in this picture lines up perfectly with the fabric roses that were seen all over the spring runway from Marc Jacobs to Miu Miu).

Trend She'd Wear Instead: Snakeskin Boots

Could you see Carrie in ubiquitous chunky-soled dad sneakers? We can't imagine she'd be on board. What she does love, however, is the trending snake-print boots that are everywhere right now.
