You may remember that throughout Fashion Week Australia we held our inaugural Street Style Awards #TheStreeties, celebrating the very best in Australian street style. We covered everyone from the risk-takers, to the best-dressed Australian celebrities, and, of course, we had an overall winner... Brooke Testoni.
Brooke Testoni’s style stands out for a reason. She’s original, creative, authentic, and individual—she’s our Street Style Star of the Year. As the winner of our inaugural 2016 Street Style Awards, it made sense to get together with Brooke right after Fashion Week Australia, and play dress-ups in some of our (and her) favourite Australian designers. We combed through the biggest trends we saw at the Resort 17 presentations—long lengths, soft silks, muted tones, and metallics—and styled Brooke in our favourite pieces straight off the runway.
Keep scrolling to take a peek at some of next season’s biggest trends, and read our exclusive interview with our Street Style Star of the Year.

Who What Wear Australia: Brooke, we're so obsessed with your offbeat and relaxed look. How would you describe your style?
Brooke Testoni: It’s hard to describe my style because I always just wear what feels right for me. I wear a lot of classic pieces like vintage jeans, turtlenecks, and slip dresses, however I probably wear them in a way that may not have been intended.
WWW: How do you plan your outfit each day? Around a certain piece? Or is your look defined by your mood?
BT: I usually start with a piece I want to wear. I then add pieces around it, depending on external factors like the weather or what's in my calendar. I want to be able to dress something up or down throughout the day depending on what I have on.
WWW: You take risks with your style—you’re very true to yourself and not trying to do what everyone else is doing. Where do you look for inspiration?
BT: Thank you! I find a lot of my inspiration from overseas runways and street style, and then I interpret in my own way. It's about making trends work for you and your style.
WWW: A few of our editors keep secret Pinterest boards to plan their outfits. Do you keep a secret Pinterest inspiration board?
WWW: You’re always supporting Australian designers, which we obviously love, who are some of your favourites?
BT: This seems to change every season—we have so many talented designers here. At the moment I really love what Ellery, Christopher Esber, Bassike, Michael Lo Sordo and new label Albus Lumen are doing. You'll often find me mixing different designers together, or pairing with vintage finds.
On Testoni: Zimmermann Karmic Stamp Trench ($1500), Sir the Label Valerie Mini Dress ($200), ASOS Simone Heels ($76), Olivia Kane Classic Mood Ring ($270) and Arch Mood Ring ($335), West Elm Roar Rabbit Arm Chair ($1299).
WWW: We always like to know where fashionable girls love to shop. Can you share your online shopping secrets?
WWW: What trends are you excited about for winter?
BT: My favourite trends for winter are low heels, bomber jackets, vintage jeans (always) and layering silk slip dresses or tops over my outfits (i.e. over my bottomless pit of turtleneck knits).
WWW: What style rules or style formulas do you live by?
BT: Don’t show your legs and bust at the same time. Leave a little to the imagination!
WWW: What have you learnt through working with stylists?
BT: No one knows your true style except yourself. And always trust your instincts!
WWW: What’s the next fashion piece you plan on splurging on?
BT: I have been eyeing off a Gucci bag, but I am yet to convince the husband it is a good investment!
On Testoni: Scanlan Theodore Hail Spot Tunic ($180), Zimmermann Karmic Lounge Pants ($550) , Natasha Schweitzer Odette Earrings ($540), Amber Sceats Harvie Ring ($99) (on ring finger), Lucy Folk Dough Ring ($215) (on pinkie), Beau Coops x Romance Was Born Jasmin Shoes (shop similar style)
WWW: What’s your stance on fashion? Is it a big part of your everyday life? Is it important to you?
BT: I love fashion. I love the creativity behind it and the limitless ways to wear different things. I love to experiment with my look and show my personality through what I wear.
WWW: What’s been your biggest ‘pinch me’ moment in your career?
BT: I have worked with some great and iconic brands, but I find it most humbling when young girls approach me in the street and tell me I inspire their style. It is just really nice to have a positive influence on women.
On Testoni: Sass & Bide Edit Existence Top ($150), and Desert Dream Pants ($190), Daniel Avakian Silk Neck Tie ($85), Christie Nicolaides Alexandria Earrings ($239), Olivia Kane Classic Mood Ring ($270) and Arch Mood Ring ($335), Senso Ummi Heels ($295).
