I Found the Wedding Shoe to End All Wedding Shoes
It's a dilemma we know all too well: The wedding invitation arrives and your initial excitement quickly turns to horror when you realise the ceremony you're attending is being hosted on grass—dun dun dun! Dramatic? Yes. But it is a real problem. So when this scenario happened to me a few months ago, I set out on a quest to find shoes that would not only support me walking around on grass all day, but also look chic while doing so. Let me tell you, this was not an easy feat.
After a lot of legwork (and by legwork, I mean extensive internet searches and polling of my fellow editors), I was #blessed enough to find the one—no seriously, the perfect wedding shoe does exist. They are the Intentionally Blank Willow Sandal, and let me tell you why: The aforementioned sandals checked every box I was looking for.
First off, they're pretty—that is the top priority when looking for a wedding outfit, right? The square-toe and delicate straps make them very of-the-moment with the recent resurgence of the '90s sandals trend. Secondly, the squared-off heel is only two and a half inches high and wide enough that there isn't even a chance of puncturing the grass and getting stuck mid-stride. This was the selling point for me for this particular ceremony.
Now came the moment of truth—are they actually comfortable enough to get me through two days of wedding ceremony activities? I planned on wearing them to the rehearsal dinner, welcome party, ceremony, and reception (I was in the bridal party, so I had quite a few events to attend). Much to my surprise and delight, these sandals were beyond comfortable. I was able to walk stably on grass, feel put-together, and dance the night away—a win in my book.
So there you have it. I rest my case on why these sandals are the best wedding shoes I've ever worn. Keep scrolling to see the shoes in action, and then shop them for yourself.
This is what happens when you ask a guy to take your photo—the shoes get ignored. But you can (mostly) see me wearing them above at the rehearsal dinner. In zero pain and really leaning into the '90s look with a slip dress and chain belt.
And now thanks to a female photographer, a better look at them.
You can't see them in this one because of the length of my bridesmaid dress, but they're under there and allowed me to glide across that grass without the fear of a twisted ankle.
But that's not all—I also found myself wearing these on repeat IRL post-wedding. As I mentioned earlier, '90s-style sandals were a huge trend in 2018 and are poised to be an even bigger one in 2019, so I've been wearing these almost every day since. An even bigger win in my book.
A shoe that can be worn well past the event you bought them for is basically the dream.
Seriously, I have to actively stop myself from wearing these.
