I'm Ready to Ditch Skinny Jeans for These 5 Popular Pant Trends
No, I'm not here to hate on skinny jeans. The classic style has plenty of redeeming qualities, but there are just so many other trends to experiment with right now that I'd be remiss not to point them out. When I set out to find the most popular pant trends among celebrities, I definitely struck gold thanks to Rihanna, Blake Lively, Meghan Markle, Selena Gomez, and more.
Markle, for her part, has a penchant for polished wide-leg trousers, which she typically wears with pieces in matching colors for a cool monochrome look. Gomez, on the other hand, prefers a more laidback look in the form of plaid pants worn with lace-up combat boots. Scroll down to shop my favorite five pant trends inspired by celebrities.
1. Baggy, Wide-Leg Pants
On Rihanna: Maria Moscone coat; Rick Owens pants; Savage x Fenty gloves
Her lemon-and-lime color combo here is giving me life, but I also love her baggy pants styled with pointy-toe pumps peeking out. Rihanna has been wearing a lot of ultra-baggy pant styles lately and always pulls them off with aplomb.
2. Loose-Fitting Pinstripe Pants
On Blake Lively: Chanel boots
For a fall stroll in New York City, Lively wore these relaxed pinstripe pants with lace-up Chanel boots. Are you taking outfit notes? I traditionally associate pinstripe pants with stuffy, corporate pantsuits, but Lively's versions are so much more chill.
3. Track Pants
On Bella Hadid: Nike jacket and pants; Asics sneakers
Sporty spice, anyone? Hadid looks ready to compete for the U.S. in the Olympics—in the most stylish way, of course. In reality, she was on her way to the gym and eschewed leggings in favor of cool track pants by Nike.
4. Monochrome Pantsuits
On Meghan Markle: Emporio Armani coat; The Row turtleneck; Aquazzura pumps; Cartier watch
Meghan Markle certainly knows the power of a monochrome ensemble. Along with Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth, Markle loves to stick to one color and wear it from head to toe. You can never go wrong with a matching pantsuit.
5. Plaid Trousers
On Selena Gomez: Veronica Beard pants; Kurt Geiger boots
I love how Gomez paired her plaid pants with casual lace-up combat boots here. Plaid pants might seem like they belong at the office, but Gomez proved that they can be styled in a super casual and laidback way for fall and winter.
Next, Hailey Bieber wore the new platform Uggs that will sell out by December.
Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 12 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of senior news editor (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
