It’s no secret that Balenciaga, has a… unique approach to footwear. From “chair-inspired” boots, to chunky sneakers, to the infamous pantashoe, Balenciaga has proved that “ugly shoes” have a place in high fashion.

Perhaps because of the shock-factor, or just in their bizarre individuality, Balenciaga’s zany shoe styles have proven to be surprisingly popular. Similar to the shock we experienced at the news of the pantashoes rapid sell-out speed, there is a new contender to Balenciaga’s bizarrely popular ugly shoe collection: The platform croc.

Though we never thought we’d see the day when crocs made a comeback, Balenciaga is proving that love for the rubbery, comfort shoes has been brewing beneath the surface for quite some time. In fact, the brand’s croc-style shoes from the S/S 18 collection, sold out even before the initial release, as reported by The Independent.

Regardless of whether or not you like the shoes, the fact that the brand has sold out their interpretation of the humble croc, with a $1075 price tag, points towards a common theme: People are ready to shake things up in the shoe department. If Balenciaga’s other forays into out-of-box footwear didn’t convince you already, these crocs prove that the brand is pulling off “ugly shoes” in an intriguing way.
