Meet the Woman Behind Luxury Jewellery Brand Anita Ko
In honour of Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power’s book, The Career Code: Must-Know Rules for a Strategic, Stylish, and Self-Made Career ($17), we’re continuing on with an interview series featuring questions about the work lives of the most inspirational female leaders in the fashion industry. We’ve tapped Pip Edwards, Rebecca Minkoff, Sally Singer, Rachel Zoe, and more. Up next? Off the back of her ongoing partnership with Net-a-Porter, we speak to jewellery designer, Anita Ko.
Luxury jewellery designer Anita Ko's eponymous brand is a favourite of many Hollywood celebrities. Take one look at her Instagram and you'll see her fans range from Miranda Kerr and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, to Kendall Jenner and Victoria Beckham (to name a few). With a focus on quality craftsmanship, and her use of a dazzling array of diamonds and semi-precious stones, we're sure Ko's success is set to climb to higher heights.
We recently caught up with L.A.-based Ko while she was in Sydney to hear more about her brand, her ongoing partnership with Net-a-Porter, and the inspiration behind her luxurious, timeless and contemporary pieces.

"Diverse. An average week can range from evenings spent designing, to days figuring out logistics in the office. I might be sourcing precious stones, then I'm on a plane across the world to show jewellery and meet my clients."
"People think I play with diamonds all day and I think they would find it surprising that my job is 5 percent glamour and 95 percent hard, painstaking work."
"I would have loved to meet Mexican movie star María Félix. She had some of the finest, most iconic pieces of jewellery ever made by Cartier. She also lived a fun colorful life and I would have wanted her to teach me some pointers."
"Instagram, Rapaport Report, and Kitco for daily gold prices. I also have close relationships with other designers in the industry. We often get together to share ideas and to provide advice and support to one another."
"Honesty, a good listener, someone willing to learn, ambitious, and hardworking."
"My beautiful Colombian emerald ring."
"A person who tries to achieve perfection, generous, complex, funny, and tough in business."
"I like to look at vintage European films and jewellery for a little pick-me-up when I'm uninspired. My fashionable clients also motivate me with their unique styles, and they constantly challenge me to keep providing something new and chic."
"Be gracious in your exit and always give two weeks' notice."
"The Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel is my go-to lunch location. It's a Los Angeles landmark and a convenient distance from everywhere I need to be on an average day."
"They tend to think the fashion industry doesn't involve a lot of work or paperwork, and often lack attention to detail. It's a beautiful business but a lot has to happen to make it that way."
"Be humble, work hard, and maintain a sense of humour."
"My partnership with NET-A-PORTER excites me the most. I started with them when they only had five other fine jewellery lines. It makes me so proud to see where we both are today and I’m hoping that I had a small part in our great success."
