Bella, Kaia, and Alexander Wang Make Me Want to Wear Lingerie Like This

The show opened to raging guitars and flashing lights, as small singular raindrops fell on me from the cloudy skies above New York's Pier 17. I was seated stadium-style to take in what Alexander Wang called Collection 1, a show that eschewed the traditional shopping seasons in favour of a more modern (though relatively untested) schedule. For this rebirth, Wang chose to focus on a melding of Americana and immigration, inspired in part by the story of his own parents' journey.

Wang is no stranger to spectacle, as his shows are famous for debauchery—gluttonous after-parties, unabashed celebrity, and at least a dash of logomania. Though this time around, Wang skipped the after-hours celebrating, the show hit the mark. A hot dog stand provided snacks and merch was available for showgoers looking to pick up a souvenir. Wang's model friends from Bella Hadid to Binx Walton took the stage dressed in bandana headbands, leather, and denim—a meshing of Midwestern pop culture and New York edge.

While there was plenty to draw your eye during the show, one cool styling trick I was particularly intrigued by was the underwear-as-outwear displayed by the likes of Kaia Gerber and Bella Hadid. Lacy black bras were worn with barely there shorts and oversize jackets. With temperatures on the rise in NYC, I'm living by the mindset of the fewer clothes the better. And while I can acknowledge that many may not be quite comfortable with going sans shirt completely, I offer the alternative of styling your bra with a sheer top over.

The show managed to go on, sans downpour and models walked the finale to Childish Gambino's "This Is America". It wasn't a rodeo or a race car rally, but it was a whole lot of fashionable fun. Get a look at the show below.
