I'm Bringing Back WWW's 30-Day Wardrobe Challenge—Hanging at Home Edition

If you’re a Who What Wear newsletter subscriber, you’ll have noticed that recently we put out a call to our readers to email feedback and content requests directly to us. While perusing my inbox chock-full of your brilliant ideas, I noticed a common plea to bring back our 30-Day Wardrobe Challenge. For those of you who don’t have the memory of a stylish elephant and may need a refresher on the series last seen in 2017, every season, we released a 30-day challenge with fashion "dares” designed to help reinvigorate your wardrobe and tap into new trends and styling ideas. Readers would follow along and try the challenges, thoroughly documenting it all on their social media, and we would share our favorite looks on Who What Wear.

All this to say, we’re back! It’ll be the same, but different. For starters, this time around we’ll be exploring style made for the great indoors. That means outfits you’ll be comfortable in at home. Has anyone else become highly allergic to anything even slightly restricting/inconvenient/itchy like I have? Some challenges will provide practical ideas to find your new outfit normal or come out of a sweatpant slump, and others are simply meant to spark happiness, especially during this difficult time. I also know most of us are on tighter budgets than usual, so the challenges are meant to be done with items you likely already own. Just in case you are shopping, I kept product recommendations generally on the more affordable end. Also, you don’t have to do each day’s challenge to partake. See what speaks to you, and come in and out as you please. You make the rules here.

I’m hoping this challenge can help us remember the fun in self-expression and getting dressed and potentially create a bit of community, too. When planning one of our first editorial WFH Zoom meetings, I had the idea to make it hat-themed. Seeing all the editors show their personal hat flair (I may have had too much flair) brought us joy and made us feel together, even though we are apart. If you do participate and choose to share your outfit on social, make sure to add the hashtag #WWWwardrobechallenge to tap into the community of awesome people dressing up with you and also so we can include you in the post-challenge roundup and, of course, give you some social love, too. With that, let’s dive in.

April 1: Dress up your lounge pants.

A crisp button-down is all these lounge pants needed to feel sleek as hell.

April 2: Nail your "business on top, lounge on bottom" look.

They will be none the wiser that you're lounging from the waist down. Just don't stand up.

Another excellent "business on top, lounge on bottom" look.

April 3: Try a high-low look by accessorizing your sweatsuit.

We're going full-tilt '90s hip-hop here.

A little something for the ankle, too.

April 4: Wear your fanciest pajamas.

Sunglasses optional.

April 5: Try the baseball-cap trend for your social-distancing walk.

The fashion girls have spoken: Baseball caps are in and have been gaining steam for a handful of months now. Similar to sunglasses, I find they add a nice element of camouflage for faking a slightly more pulled-together look.

April 6: Wear real pants.

I'm not talking jeans here; I've not lost my mind (yet). I tried this today to make sure this was a reasonable challenge, and I can confirm comfortable pants are not only doable but kind of a nice break from the sweats and leggings.

April 7: Wake up your basic black leggings.

In case leggings are the comfort zone and you can't stop thinking about Tiger King, may we recommend an animal-print top?

30-day-spring-outfit-challenge-286508-1585682101294-image

April 8: Wear pink! Because it's Wednesday.

Sorry. Mean Girls came out 16 years ago this month, and we're still not over it.

April 9: Match your makeup to your outfit.

Sure, you could do a neutral tan color, but why not wile out with some aqua or baby blue?

30-day-spring-outfit-challenge-286508-1585677702119-image

April 10: Wear a piece of jewelry that makes you smile.

You know the one. The piece that's been left in your jewelry box wondering if you still love it. Today's the day.

April 11: Put on anything glittery for a Saturday shindig in.

Congrats. You made it to Saturday. Let's party?

April 12: Wear your most nightgown-like dress or dress-like nightgown.

If we wear it all day and all night, who is to say it's not a nightgown and a dress?

30-day-work-from-home-wardrobe-286508-1585690418264-image

April 13: Find a piece you haven't worn forever, and build an outfit around it.

Your old band tee just got a new lease on life.

April 14: Style an accessory in an unusual way.

Warning: Wearing a belt around a blazer is an advanced at-home move. Opting for something restrictive is frankly ballsy, so I would recommend at least snapping an IG while you're strapped in to make sure it was worth it. Don't forget the #WWWwardrobechallenge.

April 15: Channel springtime joy by wearing a floral piece.

Bring the outdoors inside!

The coziest girl of all.

Or two while you're at it.

April 18: Wear that sheer item without having to worry about the right undergarments.

No bra, no problem.

April 19: Put on the "special occasion" matching set.

Sheer logo lace is fashion-girl catnip. Just in case you want to drool over a similar Gucci set, I'm just going to leave this link here.

April 20: Try an unexpected layering combo.

Slip dresses over tops. Button-downs over turtlenecks. Vests over T-shirts. I could talk layering ideas for days.

April 21: Gather your beige items, and try oat-milk dressing.

Ready to dress like every millennial's milk of choice? Oat-milk dressing is happening, people. And I found so many examples of it online I had to restrain myself to only include three. PS: The exact set pictured above is from The Line by K.

April 23: Pick one color family, and dress in it head to toe.

Extra points if you mix and match colors, but no judgement if you just get a cute matching set like the below.

April 24: Wear a blazer or cardigan as a top.

You know those jackets and sweaters you usually wear over something else in the outside world? Why not wear them alone? Mom's house, mom's rules.

Two words: happy feet.
