5 Things Every Stylish Woman Will Wear Soon
If you've ever wondered about what it's like to dissect fashion week from a buyer's perspective, you're in luck. We tapped an expert, Claire Distenfeld, the owner and creative director of Fivestory, to share what caught her eye at Paris Fashion Week. As the woman behind the boutique every NYC girl loves to frequent, Claire has invaluable insight into how she decides what makes the cut.
Her biggest advice, "you always have to take into consideration that runway shows are not reality." Claire notes that when she's visiting showrooms, she runs down a list of crucial questions, where a customer would wear an item, it's purpose, value, and of course if it's comfortable. "My taste and my shopping habits are really similar to my client, so if I walk into a showroom and say 'I want to wear the $%# out of that,' my client usually feels a version of that same sentiment."
Below, Claire highlighted five of her favourite takeaways after the fray, explaining why each will be a major must for autumn. Read on for her take on the trends, and to shop the styles now (before everyone else does)!
"There was a lot of celebration of the female body and female dressing. Giambattista Valli did a phenomenal job of incorporating the corset into his gorgeous dresses, which accentuated a womanly figure while also adding hints of sexiness to the mix."
"The colour of the season I think is going to be Marigold, from Rosie Assoulin's silk moire to Khaite's beautiful silk and velvet slit dresses."
"I think monochrome is a big trend, and it is very easy. Literally just put on all one colour from head to toe… It doesn't even have to be the same hue."
"There's something happening in fashion right now, something subtle but powerful, and it's the insurgence of POWER into a woman's wardrobe."
"I think what is really exciting me is that styles that were traditionally seen as 'Masculine' (the cowboy, the Wall Street power suit) are now totally and completely accepted and glorified for women."
