This Ankle Boot Trend Is Definitely Not for Wallflowers

Erin Fitzpatrick

Black ankle boots are certainly a beloved staple for fall and winter, but they aren't exactly the most interesting footwear choice. That is, of course, unless you swap garden-variety versions for something a bit more daring. Enter the trend Net-a-Porter's online magazine, The Edit, explained in a recent issue: Victoriana boots.

"Want to tone down the theatrics of a lace dress?" The Edit writes. "Then ground it with something a little more sturdy, like a black ankle boot that’s part pilgrim, part witch (in the best possible way)." The hallmarks of the boots: Victorian-inspired buttons or lacing and, in some cases, avant-garde curved heels. If you want to get in on the trend, Net-a-Porter has a whopping 33 different styles under the Victoriana boots category—here, we've narrowed them down to our favourite five pairs. While these are pricey investments, to be sure, they just might inspire you to step outside your comfort zone when it comes to ankle boots.
