Some of the most confident female celebrities have tattoos. Angelina Jolie, Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, the list goes on. That’s why we weren’t completely surprised to find out that there’s a study to back the theory that ink can raise your self-esteem, as our friends over at Mic recently discovered.

Texas Tech University sociology professor Jerome Koch—who interestingly enough has been studying tattoos and piercings for years—found that women with “four or more tattoos report[ed] a substantively and significantly higher level of self-esteem” than their non-inked counterparts. Interesting! If you have a tattoo, share in the comments if you think it affects your confidence!
