We're Here to Talk About the 'Going Out' Top, and Why It's Different Now
Remember the 'going out' top? It was probably the top you wore in the early '00s, and it had sequins or a lace-lined neckline. You either teamed it with jeans or a denim skirt, and your shoes were either Etnies or a peep-toe wedge. Boy, have the times changed. The 'going out' top fell to the wayside for some time, but now it's back, and better than it ever was before. Thanks to some global influence, we've seen the voluminous sleeve trend, off-the-shoulder style, bodices, classic white shirts, and silk shirts come through the last few seasons, and most recently, the square neckline trend starting to trend.
If you're keen to buy a 'going out' top for party season this year, but need a further push, we asked Shannon Thomas of Désordre Boutique to make the case for it. "I think tops are a great way to get more longevity out of your wardrobe. In this ethical and environmentally conscious fashion environment, you can find key pieces to take you through for longer. Investment is key."
