4 Women in Fashion on What They Wear to Feel Powerful
Clothing isn't just something you throw on after you wake up as you run out the door. Studies have shown what you wear affects your state of mind, so when you're heading into a major meeting or interview, dressing in pieces that make you feel powerful can make all the difference. But what makes you feel confident may be different from your boss or even your best friend.
So what do women in the fashion industry turn to when they want to feel like they can conquer the world? At a speaker series hosted by designer Misha Nonoo at NYC's Hotel Americano, we asked Nonoo—along with Harper's Bazaar executive editor Laura Brown, Man Repeller's Leandra Medine, and curator Hikari Yokohama—to tell us exactly what they wear when they want to feel powerful.
While each woman had a different power piece in mind, they shared a similar sentiment—in the end, it's all about what makes you feel comfortable. Read on to see what they had to say, and to shop their picks!
"It's something I'm really comfortable in. It's tailored; you can see the outline of my figure, and I feel as though I can forget what I'm wearing. It's something really easy. In the winter, a miniskirt with sweatshirt; in the summer, it could be a jumpsuit or a great dress with a shirt underneath."
"I would wear an outfit I've already worn before; something really clean and crisp. And flats for me—if I feel like I can move, I am much more confident."
"It depends on where I am. If I'm on a set, I feel most powerful in jeans because I feel most comfortable in them; jeans, a good shirt, and heels. The outfit you feel most powerful in should just be the outfit you feel best in; it's not to be overthought."
"Shoes that make me feel good? I feel great in flat lace-up sandals."
