Yes, You Can Wear Mismatched Stripes

Gina Marinelli

Stripes are often associated with French style, but it's typically in a Breton-tee kind of way. However, that's not the case in the banded look that caught our eyes today. Instead, Marion Cotillard’s latest red carpet outfit totally erased any hesitation we had to style stripes with more stripes.

For this particular French style moment, Cotillard combined two Rochas pieces in contrasting scale and colours: a black pencil skirt with thin bronze lines and a boxy jacket in an even pattern of black and a blush metallic. Independently, they each could have been featured very differently, and the choice to pair them together might seem like an obvious faux pas. But as it turns out, it's not.

Cotillard’s finished product was eye-catching (not an eyesore) with this intentional clash of ribbons. The black stripes on her top and bottom tied the separates together while her pared-back accessories allowed her bold mismatching to take center stage.
