The Exact 2 Chanel Nail Polishes Behind Margot Robbie's "Barbie Doll Hands"
In case you missed it, the 81st annual Golden Globes took place last night in Los Angeles. There were many notable beauty looks, but it should come as no surprise that Margot Robbie was among them. The actress paired her hot-pink custom Armani Privé dress with a glowing complexion and glossy hair. In my opinion, the look was complete and utter perfection—especially when you consider the underrated element that took her Barbie commitment to a whole new level. I'm talking about her barely there manicure.
Nail artist Betina Goldstein created a nude manicure that matched Robbie's skin tone perfectly. Usually, nail experts recommend choosing a nude nail polish that's one shade lighter or darker than your skin tone for contrast, but Goldstein opted for an exact match—and for good reason. Goldstein posted a picture of Robbie's nails on her Instagram page, explaining, "For Margot’s nails, I wanted them to blend in with her skin to create the illusion of Barbie doll hands."
Here's a close-up picture taken from Goldstein's Instagram page. As you can see, Robbie's nails are pretty much a perfect match for her skin tone, which gives them that doll-like effect they were after. Goldstein calls them "Barbie doll hands," but we've also heard of this kind of nude manicure being referred to as "mannequin hands" before.
Whatever you call it, this manicure is understated and surprisingly chic, which is why we were so excited to find out the exact nail polish shades Goldstein used to create the look. Hint: she used two Chanel nail polishes. That should come as no surprise seeing as Robbie is a Chanel ambassador and Goldstein is a Chanel nail artist. Keep scrolling to see the exact ones!
The Exact Nail Polishes
In the same Instagram caption, Goldstein said that she started with one coat of this Chanel base coat "to smooth the nail bed" before moving on to color.
The first color she reached for was this beige-brown one, called Légende. She applied just one coat before moving on to the next step.
Once the first coat of color was dry, she applied one coat of this fresh pink shade over top. "Using Chanel Le Vernis Legende as the base color gave the nails a beige depth, while Chanel Le Vernis Skieuse added a sheer hint of pink, making her nails blend with her skin tone to create that Barbie doll hand effect," she said.
The final step was to apply this top coat to seal in the color, provide a glossy finish, and prevent chipping. Goldstein applied two coats for the utmost shine and protection.
We think this is a manicure trend that could catch on quickly. After all, it's easy to re-create, it looks "quiet luxury" chic, and it feels somewhat nostalgic—a winning combination. Hats off to Goldstein and the rest of Robbie's hair and makeup team for their attention to detail and their commitment to the Barbie press tour.
